Staging (Seeding) VM Replication

文章分類:

Because VMs are often large, the initial (full) VM replication can be slow, time consuming, and can put undesirable load on the network. To speed up the initial VM replication and save network bandwidth, you can perform staged replication: transfer VMs to your target site using a removable media (such as an external USB hard drive) and then create a new replication job that will use the transferred VMs as a target and perform only incremental replication.

To stage VM replication, follow the steps below:

  1. Put VMs that you want to replicate to a removable media (such as an external USB hard drive) using backup, replication, or any other means.
  2. Transfer the media to the target location.
  3. Add (recover) the VMs to the desired server and datastore.
  4. Create a new replication job and map the source VMs to the transferred VMs
